Activities Fair name change
The name of the activities fair has changed to clubs fair. There will be a clubs fair in conjunction with the Welcome Back BBQ, that will happen in fall and winter quarters, as well as in the spring, when clubs will participate in Orca Day. This will give clubs the opportunity to get their name out and share information about what they do.
Orca I.D. Card
The Orca Card is officially up and running. Brought to you (the student) by the AWSCC, the card will be needed to access several things around campus, such as the copiers and printers. Students can also put cash on it, and use it in the bookstore, the Dockside, or quick vending. It can also be used to check out items from the library.
Ambassador Program
A new opportunity for students has been created, and is now taking applications. It will begin fall quarter. Students ambassadors represent Whatcom to prospective students and their families, work to promote campus activities, and welcome new students. Must have a 2.5 GPA, and be in good standing, be able to provide one letter of recommendation, and fill out the application packet. For more information or to apply, visit:

Leadership Enrichment course
Students looking to develop their leadership skills are invited to sign up for a brand new, 2-credit leadership class. It’s open to all students, and only meets the first and last days of the quarter. The rest of the work will be done online, via Moodle.
Whatcom Reads! Book selected
“Border Songs” is the chosen book for Whatcom Reads! this year. Written by Jim Lynch, a Washington native, it is “at once comic and tender and momentous—a riveting portrait of a distinctive community, an extraordinary love story and fiction of the highest order.”
Lynch will be at Whatcom’s Syre Auditorium on February 24, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Jim Lynch has also written “From May to September,” and “Highest Tide.”
