I’ve had a lot of firsts in my life, but not nearly as many lasts. That being said, in two weeks, I will have experienced my last quarter at Whatcom Community College. It’s been an amazing few years here, and it will definitely feel weird not coming back in the fall.
There have been a couple faculty members here that have changed my life in one way or another. Starting with Russ Sherif: his methods of teaching math made me actually enjoy it every day. I used to loathe it. Now, call me crazy, but I miss being in a math classroom every day.
Next, of course, my journalism adviser. Even though I’m not pursuing journalism as a career, I can’t even begin to express how it will help me in my journey as a paralegal. The editing skills, the writing skills, and the skills I’ve learned that will help me effectively communicate with clients is something I am forever grateful for.
I am really going to miss this school. But it’s time for me to enter the world, for the first time, not being a student. I want to say good luck to those who are returning to campus in the fall; make the most of it. And to my wonderful staff, thank you. You’re all amazing.
