CPR Instructor Robbie Waldo demonstrated how to administer life-saving measures during CPR/first aid training seminars held in Syre Student Center on Jan. 18.
When a medical emergency occurs in Whatcom County, people at the scene wait about four minutes on average for emergency responders to arrive, Waldo said. Knowing what to do during that time could save a life and help the EMTs know what to expect.
Highlights included knowing when to call 911, staying with the victim until someone with more training arrives, assessing an injury or illness, and how to best help the injured person. An individual without a heartbeat needs CPR administered quickly to get their heart working again, Waldo said.
