Business Club Offers Free Tax Prep Service

The Whatcom Business Club will be offering a free tax preparation services to faculty, staff, students and administration. The Whatcom Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) will begin Monday, Feb. 13 from 5 – 8pm in the Heiner library, room 201B. This service will also be available on Friday mornings from 9 a.m. until noon, afternoons from 1-3 p.m. This service will be offered every Monday evening and Friday mornings and afternoons until April 14. The VITA program will not be held on Feb. 20 due to President’s Day or during spring break. The students who will be preparing tax returns will do so under the supervision of an experienced tax preparer. According to the WCC Business Club, all student tax preparers have undergone significant training in tax law and have taken and passed an advanced tax exam and an ethics exam.

Department Seek Props

The drama and music departments are in need of props for their upcoming co-production “A Revolution of Values: An Evening of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill” March 2-4. If anyone has any of the following and is willing to loan them out until March 6, they would be really appreciative. According to Gerry Large, they are looking for:

1930-ish knapsacks, the kind used for hiking in the 1920s-40s.

Old World War I or II uniforms, helmets, military caps (WWI German army helmet if possible.)

An old rope ladder, and flasks, “the older the better.”

Retired Ambassador to Give Presentation on US-Russian Relations

John Koenig a recently retired ambassador, and former foreign-service officer is scheduled to give a presentation on US Russian relations on Feb. 9 from 5 – 6:30 p.m. in the Heiner Theatre. According to his bio, his objective is to “share and consider experience gained as a senior foreign affairs practitioner with students and academic colleagues.” As well as “enhance understanding of foreign and security policy and diplomacy by exploring the interface between theory and practice.”
