The WCC women’s basketball team matched up against the Bellevue Bulldogs Wednesday night. In what was a hard fought battle on both ends, Bellevue was able to take control of the game, winning 75-57.
The Bulldogs started off strong, taking a lead of 24-11 by the end of the first quarter. The Orcas were able to tighten up their defense in the second quarter. Jewel Wilson was able to help bring them closer to coming back, leading the team in points in the second quarter. The Bulldogs eventually took a 20-point lead over the Orcas, from which the Orcas were unable to come back. The Orcas struggled from the field, shooting 33.8% from the floor and making only four 3-pointers throughout the game.
Coming off of a 21-point game vs. Everett, freshman Audrey Hansen was able to put up a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. She is currently averaging 9.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game this season. The Orcas also had good performances from Neomi Davidson, who grabbed 10 rebounds, and Jewel Wilson who ended the game with 14 points.
Tomorrow, Feb. 18, the Orcas match up against Edmonds College. Edmonds is currently sitting two spots above Whatcom with a 4-6 record. The women’s game will take place at Edmonds College at 2 p.m. this Saturday, with the men’s basketball team playing right after at 4 p.m.
