Many students from Whatcom Community College have made great interns, reported Rena Nordby, representing Advanced Medical Massage in Bellingham. This is good news for students who attended last week’s Job & Internship Fair!
From 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Pavilion Student Rec Center on Thursday, May 2, the Job and Internship Fair hosted representatives from businesses and organizations across and around Whatcom County. Advanced Medical Massage, Bellingham Wedding & Event Rentals, KMRE Radio, Perennial Zero Waste, and Semiahmoo Resort, Golf, & Spa were among the organizations manning booths.
Lauren Sommer, Program Manager for Perennial Zero Waste, explained at the company’s table that summer positions are currently available for students. Perennial Zero Waste specializes in waste reduction and sustainability work.
“If you like camping, traveling, meeting new people, working long hours outside, working hands-on in trash and recycling then come join us!,” reads Perennial Zero Waste’s website.
Bellingham Wedding & Event Rentals is currently hiring for two positions: Event Rental Specialist and Warehouse Associate. In conversation, business representative Roma Mangat agreed that students in WCC’s Hospitality & Tourism Business Management program may find interest in said positions.
Semiahmoo Resort, Golf, & Spa hosted a table, enticing prospective employees and interns with a Plinko set-up and colorful prizes. Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) of Washington, a nonprofit based in Yakima, advertised career, education, and scholarship opportunities for individuals and families in low-income and rural communities, especially seasonal agricultural workers.
Students from all disciplines and degree programs attended the Job & Internship Fair.
Community-powered radio station KMRE, with its headquarters on the Whatcom Community College Campus, hosted a table at the event as well, spreading the word about available internship and volunteer opportunities.
“We want to get all perspectives,” said KMRE’s Connor Willis.
With students, alumni, and community members walking through the pavilion’s doors, it’s safe to say the 2024 Job & Internship Fair was a success!
