Feeding the webcam: Decision
The ASWCC granted the requested $1,500, to install a 1 mega-pixel, live feed webcam, overlooking campus from the vantage point of the International Office. Installation will begin in the following weeks with real time video viewable from Whatcom’s website. The motion was passed with 7 in favor and 4 opposed after a lengthy discussion, including student concerns of price and privacy. Ultimately the council decided to support and fund the student-originated idea.
Filling big, empty shoes
In the past week, the council opened the floor to nominations for vice-presidential candidates. Morgan Hein, John Laigaie and Laura Hansen accepted nominations and were each allowed 3 minutes to speak to the council on why they should be elected. In the following weeks, interviews will be held before the appointment of the position.
New Addition
The council recognized, Synergy, a new club dealing with gender variance. The club is intended to be a confidential, peer-support group for individuals seeking fellowship with others who share experiences similar to their own. Synergy was simultaneously granted $100 for start-up costs and advertisement for their new organization.
Lit club gets plugged
The Literature Club plans to be very active and was granted a budget of $745 to operate throughout the school year. Among many ways in which they strive to become more intimately involved with literature, they read one book together per quarter and discuss it at their meetings. They also plan on holding open-forum poetry readings and are looking forward to their spring-time, Noisy Water Review, a contest in which the club will be selecting the best works of poetry and fiction from students with the hope of publishing a winner’s work. The Lit Club meets Mondays from 4 to 5 in Kelly Hall, room 009.
